Lamu Cultural Festival & African Safari in Kenya: Nov 17-25, 2013
Join The Village Experience and Go Eat Give on the cultural trip of a lifetime to the Cultural Festival in Lamu, Kenya. Go Eat Give is about exploring the world and learning about different cultures through food and community service. TVE co-founder, Kelly Campbell, and Go Eat Give founder, Sucheta Rawal will be leading this trip and conducting cooking classes and volunteer activities throughout the week. This is a special trip to a culturally rich and diverse island.
November 17 – Arrive to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Transfer to hotel for overnight.
November 18 – Visit David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage in the morning to learn about conservation and anti-poaching efforts throughout Kenya. Enjoy lunch at Amani Ya Juu – this is a women’s reconciliation project that houses an income-generating restaurant and fair trade store. In the afternoon, meet the artisans of The Opportunity Collection – these amazing men and women work with brass and clay to create beautiful fair trade pieces. Return to hotel in the evening for dinner and overnight. (B,D)
November 20/21/22/23/24– Spend your days exploring the island, laying on the beach, volunteering at the orphanage and feeding program, planting trees and cleaning up the beach with local schools, sailing on a dhow, learning about Swahili cooking, and participating in the Lamu Cultural Festival activities – dhow races, donkey races, swimming competitions, poetry readings, and much more. November 25 – Fly back to Nairobi in the late morning. Transfer to hotel for check in and dinner. (B,D)
Optional Safari to Masai Mara National Park: $1200 per person based on double occupancy.
November 26 – Depart in the morning for the Masai Mara Game Reserve to go in search of the Big Five – Elephant, Rhino, Lion, Leopard, and Buffalo. Check into tented camp for dinner and overnight. (B,D)
November 27 – All day safari in the Masai Mara. Enjoy lunch on the shores of the Mara River. Return to camp for dinner and overnight. (B,L,D)
November 28 – Early morning safari. Return to camp for breakfast. Depart in the late morning for Nairobi to catch international flight home. (B)
Optional Safari to Lake Nakuru National Park and Lake Naivasha: $900 per person based on double occupancy
November 26 – Depart in the morning for Lake Nakuru
National Park. Spend the day on safari in search of lions, leopards, rhinos, giraffe, and the infamous pink flamingoes of Nakuru. Lake Nakuru is known as a bird lover’s paradise boasts over 350 species of birds within the park! Check into Lake Nakuru Lodge for dinner and overnight. (B,D)
November 27 – Early morning safari. Return to lodge for breakfast and time by the pool. Depart in the afternoon for Lake Naivasha. Check into Lake Naivasha Crescent Camp for dinner and overnight. Enjoy your own tented camp by the water! (B,L,D)
