You can find some of the best pizza, lasagna, ravioli, and gelato in the world in the heart of Tuscany in Florence, Italy. The Italian food you find here is obviously very different from the Americanized Italian version found elsewhere. Only the freshest, often locally sourced organic ingredients are used in preparation, and most recipes are […]

Often times “spice” is used synonymously with “heat.” Spices are generally used to impart flavors to food, and not all spices are hot. When people refer to spicy food, they are thinking about curry, red chili, and strong flavors. But the truth is cinnamon and nutmeg are as much as a spice as are cumin […]

I grew up as a Catholic in a country where less than 1% of the population is Christian. In the city of Chandigarh in northern India, ours was among the handful of Christian families. Even though Christmas was a big deal for us, it wasn’t as festive around as it is here in the western […]

Escape to the mountains, sit by a cozy fire, bite into a peppermint soufflé and visit a Christmas tree farm. Picture a better Christmas tree family tradition? I recently experienced the perfect weekend holiday-season getaway at the Old Edwards Inn in Highlands, North Carolina.

I am a big fan of realistic books on culture and travel. Someone said  “language is one of the most immediate ways to get to know a culture.” If They are Roses – The Italian way with Words by author Linda Falcone, editor The Florentine Press, and illustrator Leo Cardini, is one I read recently and really enjoyed. It is an light […]

One of the most captivating landscapes in northern Italy can be found at Lake Como. It is very close to Milan and can be easily visited on a day trip. The lake is shaped like an upside down V so it’s ideal to start at the top and leisurely make your way down closer to […]

Last week, I attended Florens 2012, the Florence Culture and Heritage Week in Florence, Italy. It was one of the most memorable conferences I have attended so far, and for several reasons. I was extremely excited when I heard about a “gelato for dinner” chefs event as part of Biennial Enogastronomica Fiorentina and Florence Culture and Heritage Week. If you have been following my blog regularly, you would know that I am the biggest lover of gelato in the world!

Charming small town, Victorian homes, picket fences, friendly neighbors, historic societies, and fried shrimp – that pretty much sums up St Marys, a historic town by St Marys river in southeast Georgia.

I don’t think I have ever stayed at a Bed and Breakfast before. At least not in a 1872  Victorian home! I think what I feared was not being able to predict the quality of the space, the privacy of the room or the amenities I would have. The fear of the unknown you can say. Now, […]

Cumberland Island in Georgia is known for its beautiful beaches, untouched wildlife reserves and uncommercialized island characteristics. It is perhaps most notably known for wild horses that can be seen from practically anywhere on the island.

Segovia, Spain is one of the most beautiful places I have come across during my travels. With a backdrop of breathtaking Spanish countryside, Roman aqueducts, cathedrals and castles, the city has a magical quality to it. UNESCO has also named Segovia as a World Heritage Site.

Barcelona based acclaimed chocolatier, Enric Rovira is famous for  drawing inspiration from the beautiful shapes and line designs of Antoni Gaudí, into more edible pieces of art. It is amazing to see how he takes the forms from famous structures such as Gaudi and turns them into sculptures made of chocolate.
